Joint pain can be debilitating for all ages
What treatments do we offer?
Joint injections can help reduce knee pain, shoulder pain and hip pain, and particularly pain due to osteoarthritis and tendonitis. We can use either a corticosteroid injection or platelet rich fibrin injections (PRF).
These are a powerful tool in orthopaedics for treating inflammation and help quickly alleviate the pain associated with a number of orthopaedic conditions associated with inflammation including arthritis, certain injuries and tendonitis. By limiting the inflammation, pain from these conditions is often relieved for many months allowing more effective rehabilitation.
Platelet rich plasma/fibrin
Platelet rich plasma/fibrin is (PRF/PRP) is a relatively new, advanced and innovative treatment for muscle, ligament and tendon injuries and arthritis. It can help promote faster healing and alleviate painful symptoms.
It is saturated with platelets and fibrin which are a concentrated source of healing proteins and growth factors. It also contains the all important stem cells which are the body’s foundation for regeneration. We are able to create injectable platelet rich fibrin using your own blood plasma, and this is where the magic begins. Once injected the activated concentrated platelets start accelerating healing and kick starting the regeneration process, producing a gradual, cumulative and long lasting effect.
We use PRF as its the next generation of platelet rich plasma (PRP) and is PRF is saturated with a much greater amount of growth factors than standard PRP. Because PRF forms a fibrin matrix when used in the skin, it is able to release active growth factors into the skin for much longer than conventional PRP (2 weeks compared with 24-48 hours).
A small sample of blood is collected from your arm to prepare your PRF serum. The blood is then slowly spun in a centrifuge which isolates the white blood cells and platelets to create the rich PRF serum. The doctor will then inject the PRF to the area needing treatment. PRF significantly helps speed and improve healing and pain from tendinopathies (tendon inflammation), injuries and arthritis.

Private minor surgery
Some unwanted skin lesions may be removed on the NHS if they meet strict criteria such as functional impairment (eg – interference with dressing) or recurrent infection or discharge. Removal for cosmetic reasons is not covered on the NHS however.
We offer skin surgery for minor skin lesions such as cysts, lipomas, skin tags, benign (non cancerous moles) that do not meet criteria for removal on the NHS or for clients who do not wish to undergo the sometimes extensive waiting times for these procedures.
You can expect to receive high quality treatment and aftercare personalised to you without the wait. All of our procedures are completed in our purpose built surgical suite.
What to expect from the consultation?
Your consultation will involve an initial assessment with Dr Mugerwa who is a GP with specialist interest in minor surgery. He has over 10 years clinical experience in performing minor skin surgery procedures with excellent cosmetic and clinical safety outcomes.
After obtaining a detailed medical history and clinical assessment of the lesion he will advise you of your suitability for the procedure. If you wish to proceed then the lesion can be removed the same day, alternatively a follow up appointment for the surgery can be made.
You will be given the opportunity to ask any questions and informed consent will be obtained. The skin with the lesion is numbed using a local anaesthetic injection to make the procedure entirely painless. Once the lesion is removed you may require some stitches and you will be given aftercare instructions. If you have stitches a follow up appointment will be made usually within 7-10 days at the surgery to have these removed and the wound reviewed for any complications. All aftercare is included and tailored around you.
